 College Experience and Honors: 2004: Looking to increase the strength in the midfield, the Kickers chose Sascha Görres with their first round pick, 10th overall, from the University of North Carolina-Pembroke (UNCP). Görres was recently recognized as All-Conference, All-Tournament and first team All-American (NCAA Division II) as well as named to the NSCAA All-Southeast Region squad and the NSCAA/Adidas Scholar All-American squad upon completion of his degree in Business Administration with a 4.00 grade point average. One of only two All-Americans to play for UNCP, Görres holds the school record for career assists with 28 and scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute of the NCAA quarterfinal match that sent UNCP to their first ever Final Four appearance. The 6’1" native of Flensburg, Germany started every game and tallied eight goals and nine assists in 2004.
2003: Görres transferred to the University of North Carolina – Pembroke from the University of Flensburg for Applied Sciences in Germany. In his first season with the Braves, he scored six goals while setting a new UNCP record and ranking second in the nation in assists with 19. He led UNCP to the best mark in school history at 17-1-2 and finished the season ranked #16 in the nation (NCAA Division II). He garnered PBC All-Conference, All-Region and All-State honors. | |
