In 2004, helped the Impact play 12 straight games without a loss (8-0-4), a club record, and go on to win the championship title... Helped the Impact finish first in overall standings in 2003, tied with the Milwaukee Wave United... In 2002, helped the team finish first in the Northeast Division, tied with the Rochester Raging Rhinos... Kicked off his pro career in North America with the Impact, but playing indoor soccer in the NPSL... Played the 1998-99 and 1999-2000 indoor season with Montreal... Made his USL debut with the Vancouver 86ers (now the Whitecaps) in 1999, collecting 18 goals and 10 assists to finish second in league scoring, tied with Seattle’s Mark Baena and one point behind his Vancouver teammate Niall Thompson... Then joined the Rochester Raging Rhinos in 2000, helping that team win the championship title... In 2001, helped the Hershey Wildcats post the best record (16-7-3) and the best offence (45 goals scored) in the Northern Conference, in addition to reaching the championship game...
INTERNATIONAL Played 14 seasons with Cuban club Sancti Spiritus, in his native country... Was proclaimed Player of the Year in Cuba in 1997... Played roughly 20 games with the Cuban national team before becoming a Canadian citizen...
2002 SEASON Was given the Giuseppe-Saputo Trophy, awarded to the Impact’s team MVP... Established two team records by tallying 18 goals and 36 points... Finish first among the league’s goal-scorers, tied with two players from the Portland Timbers, Fadi Afash and McKinley Tennyson... Was fourth in the league for overall scoring with 36 points, tied with Afash... Was selected on the league’s first all-star team... Was picked three times on the Team of the Week, for the 10th, 13th and 17th weeks of activity... Had four two-goal games and scored six game-winning goals over the regular season... Tied and beat Mauro Biello’s team record for most goals in a season by an Impact player, August 10, we he scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season in a 2-1 win against the Kickers in Richmond... Scored the winner in a 1-0 victory against the Atlanta Silverbacks, September 1 in Montreal, to allow the Impact to finish the regular season tied for first place in the Northeast Division with the Rochester Rhinos... That goal scored in the last game of the regular season gave him the league goal-scoring title and the Impact team record for most points in a season... Scored the goal that allowed the Impact to tie up the first-round playoff series against the Charlotte Eagles... Also scored one of Montreal’s six goals in the penalty kicks that followed at the conclusion of the home-and-home series... The penalty kicks, won 6-5, earned the team a berth into the second playoff round... Was one of six Impact players to finish the season with over 2,000 minutes played... With Gabriel Gervais, was the only Impact player to take part in all 28 regular-season games...
2003 SEASON In spite of his record-breaking season in 2002, only picked up his first career assist with the Impact outdoors on May 23, 2003 in Richmond, in a 2-1 win against the Kickers... Set up Mauro Biello’s goal at the 35th minute... Scored his first two goals of the season and tallied two assists in a 4-0 in Calgary, June 1st... That was his fifth two-goal game in two seasons with Montreal... That performance tied an Impact club record for most points in a game, i.e. six (a goal is worth two points), established on August 26, 1998 by Giuliano Oliviero... It also put him on the Team of the Week for the 7th week of activity... Scored the winner at the 83rd minute in a 3-1 victory against the Riverhounds in Pittsburgh, June 15, to allow the Impact to win for the first time in club history in Pittsburgh... Scored the winner in a 3-0 overtime victory against Rochester, June 20, allowing the Impact to take first place in the Northeast Division away from the Rhinos... Montreal went on to win the division title, as well as the Eastern Conference title... A tear to the ACL of the right knee put an end to his season July 23, in Montreal, against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds... The Impact lost that game 1-0... Underwent surgery August 15... Nonetheless played 20 of the team’s 28 games, picking up six goals and three assists (15 pts)... Was the Impact’s leading scorer at the time of his injury, and finally finished third, behind Mauro Biello (20 pts) and Zé Roberto (17 pts)... Was one of 11 Impact players to finish the season with over 1,500 minutes played... Helped the Impact post the best road record in the league (10-3-1)...
2004 SEASON Signed a new three-year contract with the Impact... Was top scorer on the team with eight goals and three assists for 19 points… Started 19 of the 23 games he played for 1,838 minutes of play… Scored the Impact’s first goal of the season in a 2-0 win in Puerto Rico…Missed several games due to an injury but came back with five goals in July… Scored game-winning goals July 21 in a 2-0 win against Calgary and August 14 in a 1-0 victory against Puerto Rico… Was the club’s top scorer in the playoffs with two goals and one assist for a total of five points… Both goals were game-winners, each scored in the quartfinals against the Rochester Raging Rhinos, two 1-0 wins September 3 and 5… Was on the starting eleven for the championship final, which the Impact won 2-0, against the Seattle Sounders on Sept. 18…
