Importants changes at the ARSQ
QUEBEC DYNAMO BACK FROM THE ASHES
Quebec, march 24, 2014 - A wind of change is blowing on elite soccer clubs in the greater Quebec area. Starting this summer for the women, and next year for the men, the two clubs at the top of the Quebec soccer hierarchy will be named Dynamo de Quebec. And what better way to celebrate this new era than with a new head coach, Marc Mounicot !
If the name Dynamo evokes some distant memories, that’s because the Association régionale de soccer de Québec(ARSQ) is taking a step back in time in giving the clubs a name that made the heyday of Quebec coccer from 1991 to 2007.
For the ARSQ general manager, Jean-Pascal Ladroue, the choice for the new name was a no brainer. "The name came as an obvious choice pretty quickly. This is a known name, many players over the years have worn this sweater. And the colors are those of our region also, the ARS of Quebec", he said, aware of the historical significance of such a change.
"The first reason is the sense of belonging. The change fits also very well in our regional shift. We have been trying, for two years, to integrate as much players from the region as possible", added Mr. Ladroue, proud supporter of regional soccer.
New blood on the coaching staff
The direction of the ARSQ took advantage of this fresh start to announce the hiring of Marc Mounicot as head coach of the Dynamo XI. Alfred Picariello is named assistant coach.
The McGill product did not hesitate long when he was offered the job. "I have long known the work of Helder Duarte (technical director at ARSQ ). I always thought he did a sensational job in the Quebec region. It is an honor for me to join his team in the making of a real force in women's soccer", commented the man who has coached the McGill Martlets for 15 years.
His assistant coach, Alfred Picariello, continues his journey in Quebec soccer. Mr. Picariello is originally from France and settled here with his family in the summer of 2012.
The Quebec Dynamo season gets underway on may 24 in Ottawa with a clash against the Fury. The first home game is scheduled on may 31, when the Dynamo will host the Laval Comètes. The game starts at 19 pm. The men's team will participate in friendly games this summer before officially launching its activities in 2015.
