Varela is a rising junior. She recently transferred from Virginia Tech to Longwood University as midfielder/forward.

At VT in 2007, she played in all 18 games, starting in 6. She recorded her first career point off an assist in the first game at Radford and scored her first career goal at Longwood.

In high school, she was named the District Rookie of the year, first-team All-Beach District and second-team Eastern region as a freshman. As a junior, she earned first-team all-distrcit, all-region, all-metro honors and honorable mention all-state honors. She was also named to the Richmond-Times Dispatch first team, appointed as team captain and MVP her senior year and earned first team all-Virginia, all-district and all-metro honors.

She is a member of the Olympic Development Program state team and Region I team.
