LAREDO, TX -- The division leading Laredo Heat came from behind on the road to earn a 2-2 draw against the DFW Tornados Sunday night.

Poor execution by the Heat defense during the first half of the game gave the DFW Tornados a 2-0 lead that they were able to hold into the half.

The second half was a different story for the Gateway City club.

Second half substitute Esteban Bayona, still nursing his injured ankle, sparked the Heat offense with an unassisted goal in the 58th minute by placing a header into the back of the net to cut the Tornado advantage to 2-1.

Later in the half, the Heat attacking offense was able to tie the score at 2-2 when Greg Mulamba took a Juan de Dios Ibarra assist in the 75th minute. Mulamba’s goal was a well placed shot from 20 yards out that went just over the outstretched hands of the DFW keeper.

The Heat got very close to winning the game when late in the match a quick header of a corner kick by Mulamba hit the left post and DFW was able to preserve the tie by kicking the ball out of harm’s way.

The Heat remains in first place with two games remaining at home and now has their eyes set on finishing strong in front of the home crowd.

The Heat were able to manage an additional four points in the Mid South Division standings with a strong outing on Friday in San Marcos, TX against the Austin Aztex U-23’s. The 4–0 win versus the Aztex coupled with the tie on Sunday against the feisty Tornados has given the Heat 25 points with 14 games played.

On Thursday, July 9th the Heat host the RGV Bravos and on Friday, July 17th the expansion West Texas United Sockers will be visiting to close out the regular season.
