PLAINVIEW, NY -- While the Long Island Rough Riders women’s team were downed 2-1 by the Boston Renegades, the men’s team defeated the New Jersey Rangers 3-0 to extend their winning streak to seven games.
In Boston, the women lost a hard-fought match to the Renegades 2-1 at Harvard Stadium. Boston got the early lead in the 18th minute and the Rough Riders equalized just after halftime. Brooke DeRosa sent a ball to the far post where it was met by midfielder Amanda Pasciolla who put it past the Renegades goalkeeper to tie the match at one.
With under 13 minutes remaining, Boston scored the go-ahead goal off as a corner kick was headed home.
The win puts Boston (4-2-1, 13 pts.) in a tie for second place in the W-League’s Northeast Divison. The Rough Riders (3-3-1, 10 pts) fall to third place.
Also on Sunday afternoon, the Rough Riders men’s team continued their winning ways with a 3-0 victory over the New Jersey Rangers. Goals by Adam Himeno, Mike Palacio, and Chris Cox earned the Rough Riders (9-1-0, 27 pts.) their ninth victory of the season and a commanding 11-point lead over Ocean City for first-place in the PDL’s Northeast Division.
The Rough Riders pestered New Jersey all match putting 21 shots on goal, forcing 18 saves on the afternoon.
The Rough Riders men and women will return home on Saturday, June 20th for their next doubleheader at Cy Donnelly Stadium located at St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, N.Y. The women will host the Connecticut Passion at 5PM and the men will face off with the Ottawa Fury at 7:30PM.
