AUSTIN, TX -- After last week’s draw left them disappointed, the Aztex found their offense to bounce back with a convincing 5-1 victory over the Houston Leones to keep Austin undefeated at home this season.

The game was played in Bastrop as the second of three games designed to support soccer in communities surrounding Austin.
The Aztex opened up the scoring early with a goal from Adam Gross in the 10th minute. Gross was honorable mention last week for the PDL Team of the Week.
Seven minutes later, midfielder Eddie Campbell kept the scoring going with a goal that pushed the lead to two after only 17 minutes of play.
The Leones were able to strike back in less than three minutes with a Jay Ambrosy goal, keeping the game from slipping away from Houston too early. The Leones stayed within one goal for the rest of the half.
But the Aztex put the pressure on the Leones’ back line to break the game open in the second half.
In the 58th minute, Gross again found the net with a strike that gave the Aztex a two-goal cushion. With the team now comfortably ahead, the Aztex defense was able to get in on the scoring action.
Defender Jamie Cunningham scored off of a header from a cross sent by Spendlove, tallying on Spendlove’s second assist of the night and his sixth of the season, a league high.
Putting the final goal in for the Aztex was two second-half substitutes. Kendell McFayden found Andres Cuero to seal the victory and sending the Aztex into a tie for second with Laredo in the Mid South Division.
The Aztex (3-1-2, 11 points) currently sit one point behind division-leading El Paso while Houston (0-5-2, 2 points) now holds last place.
