TUKWILA, WA -- The Seattle Wolves Football Club defeated the Spokane Spiders 4-2 at Starfire Stadium on Saturday evening in a PDL Northwest Division encounter.
The contest was defined by the goal scoring ability of both sides, as Spokane jumpstarted the affair with an early goal. In the 10th minute forward Mitch Weller burst through the Seattle area, beating goalkeeper Chris Blais to give the Spiders a 1-0 lead.

However, the Wolves countered immediately, dominating the run of play through the deft passing ability of University of Washington players Taylor Hoss and Jamie Finch.
In the 29th minute Finch sprung teammate Nick James, and the Seattle University striker buried the pass in the back of the Spokane goal. With the score line level at 1-1, Seattle began pressing for the go-ahead goal.
This opportunity came in the second half, when former Pac-10 Player of the Year Ely Allen pierced the Spokane flank and sprinted through their 18-yard box. Spokane goalkeeper Seth Baker brought Allen down, prompting official Rob Mauws to signal a penalty.
Allen converted the spot kick, giving the Wolves a 2-1 advantage. Seattle continued to dominate possession throughout the second half, until Weller claimed another goal for Spokane in the 73rd minute.
After giving up the lead, Seth Spidahl’s side rallied to claim the three crucial points from the Northwest Division contest. One minute after Weller’s goal, Allen raided the Spokane flank and delivered a cross to forward Casey Cunningham.
Cunningham converted Allen’s well placed cross, and Seattle regained the lead. Spidahl then brought on formidable striker Alex Chursky, who was returning from a hamstring injury that he suffered in a 4-1 win over Yakima.
Chursky immediately made his presence felt, showing off his speed in the 77th minute by beating both Spokane central defenders and blasting a shot off of Baker’s hands.
In the 90th minute Chursky added a fourth and final goal to seal the win by beating Green from an impossible angle on the left wing. The win propelled the Wolves to a first place tie in the Division table, as Seattle, Portland, and Kitsap all currently have seven points.
Seattle will welcome a strong Portland Timbers U23 side to Starfire Stadium on Wednesday May 20th at 7:00 PM. The Timbers also defeated Spokane by a score of 4-0, and Wednesday’s affair will be a battle for supremacy within the Northwest Division.
