VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- The PDL Piranhas earned a key 2-1 victory over the Fredericksburg Gunners Friday night led by team scoring leader Kevon Harris who netted what can arguably be the fastest goal scored this season in the Premier Development League.

Harris found the back of the net just 15 seconds into the match when Fredericksburg goalkeeper Patrick Mitrovich misplayed a pass back ball from a teammate and Harris finished off the rebound.
After the quick goal, the two teams settled down with each getting their chances. Piranhas’ goalkeeper Evan Newton stopped two breakaways in the first 45 minutes that could easily have been game changers.
The Piranhas came out on the attack to start the second half but in the 59th minute the Gunners tied the game when Gunners’ midfielder Jordan Evans found the back of the net from outside the eighteen. Hampton Roads continued to attack and in the 86th minute the pressure paid off.
Piranhas’ midfielder Nick Fogelsong who entered the game in the 68th minute, scored the team’s second goal on a breakaway to put the Piranhas ahead for keeps. The Piranhas are undefeated in six of their last seven matches.
The Piranhas play their next game at the Cary Clarets on Sunday, June 28th at 5 p.m. at Middle Creek Park in the first half of a doubleheader with the W-League Piranhas and the Cary Lady Clarets. The women kick off at 8 p.m.
Both Piranhas’ teams return home on July 10 in their last doubleheader of the season. The PDL squad will host West Virginia at 5:30 p.m. followed by the W-League side vs. Tampa Bay at 8 p.m. Gates open at Foster Field at 4:30 p.m.
