THUNDER BAY, ON -- The Thunder Bay Chill have extended their win streak to four games, with a 2-0 victory over the St. Louis Lions on Friday Night. The win also marks the team’s fourth shutout in a row, a defensive record that has rocketed the team back into playoff contention.
The Chill started the game at a furious pace, and failed to capitalize on several early chances.
However, the team’s hard work was rewarded with a little bit of luck as Shaun Francis scored in the 28th minute on what was a complete shocker for the Lions goalkeeper.
Keeping up the pressure, the Chill extended the lead in the 34th minute after Chance Buroskis hard work led to an easy finish for Shaun Francis’ second goal of the game.
In what is quickly developing into a heated rivalry between the two teams, the second half of the fixture became very physical. Four Chill players were cautioned in the second 45. Nolan Intermoia and Shaun Francis were shown yellow after hard fouls, while Wilson Neto and Scott Milroth were involved in a late-game scuffle that resulted in yellows for both players.
Despite the yellows, the Chill will not have any players suspended for Saturday’s rematch with the Lions. The second game of the series will kick off Saturday, July 11th, at 7:30 p.m. (EDT) at Chapples Park.
