OGDEN, UT -- The Ogden Outlaws are pleased to announce the addition of Ted Eck to the coaching staff, filling the position of Head Coach with Mike Hickman remaining on the coaching staff to serve as an assistant.
Eck will also serve as Director of Coaching for Outlaws FC, an upstart youth club to begin play in 2009, which will have associations with the Ogden Outlaws. Eck is coming to the Outlaws after serving four years as the Director of Coaching with Maui United as well as Vice President of the Maui Youth Soccer League.
“Ted is bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Outlaws that will greatly benefit the young men on the roster. That experience will make us a better team,” said Mike Hickman. “Having played professionally, he knows what it takes to play at the next level which will only enhance their chances of reaching their goals and dreams of playing in the professional ranks. He will also be a great addition to the soccer community as he works with the young kids in the area.”
Eck, a Hall of Fame member of Western Illinois University, played professionally for 13 years, including 13 international appearances with the US Men’s National team. He scored his only goal with the National Team on July 28, 1990 in a 2-1 win over East Germany.
He played several seasons on various professional indoor teams and spent two years in Canada playing with the Ottawa Intrepid and the Toronto Blizzard. It was with Ottawa, in 1989, that he was honored with the league’s Golden Boot, scoring 21 goals in 26 appearances. He went on to join the Colorado Foxes of what is now the USL First Division in 1992 and helped lead the club to three consecutive championship games from 1992-94, winning the first two. He was also honored as an All-League selection three times.
Eck remained with the Foxes through the 1995 season before being drafted third overall in the inaugural MLS draft by the Dallas Burn, with whom he played six seasons for 170 appearances and 12 goals. He also was a three-time US Open Cup champion with San Jose Oaks in 1992, CD Mexico (Fresno, CA) in 1993 and Dallas Burn in 1997.
Eck currently holds a USSF “A” Coaching license.
