NORFOLK, VA – Playing in their second match in 24 hours, the PDL Piranhas got their second win in a row, holding off the Virginia Legacy, 2-1 on two goals from midfielder Eddie Floyd.

The Piranhas traveled to Fredericksburg Tuesday night and also held off the Gunners, 1-0 at Fredericksburg Academy. Wednesday's match was a makeup match from May 9th that was postponed by heavy rain.

The Piranhas wasted no time in starting their attack when Eddie Floyd blasted a shot into the back of the net just 16 minutes into the game to give the Piranhas the early 1-0 lead. The Legacy tied the game 10 minutes later when midfielder Cam Smith slipped a ball by Piranhas keeper Ryan Zmuda during a scuffle in the box. The half ended tied at 1-1.

The second half went back and forth with neither team ever getting a real good look at goal until the 57th minute when Eddie Floyd struck against taking a pass from Greg Mottinger and firing a shot into the right corner of the goal to put the Piranhas up 2-1.

After getting the lead back the Piranhas defense tightened up and the back line played some of their best defense of the year. The game got physical in the last ten minutes and the Legacy exchanged words with the referee, picking up three yellow cards in four minutes for their trouble. Ryan Zmuda made a game winning save on his line in stoppage time stopping a low line drive taken from only feet away.

The Piranhas are on a two game winning streak and will look to end 2009 with another winning season. The team will play again at home this Saturday July 18th at 7PM against the Northern Virginia Royals in their last game of the season.
