CHARLESTON, WV – The West Virginia Chaos wrapped up their seventh season in USL’s Premier Development League in 2009. They finished fifth in the Mid Atlantic Division with a record of 5-8-3, scoring 1.43 goals per game while allowing 2.31. The Chaos’ seven year record now stands at 27-71-18.
Despite their adversity in the parity-filled Mid Atlantic Division, the Chaos finished the 2009 season in style, beating the Virginia Legacy on the road in Williamsburg, 3-2. In that match, the Chaos’ leading scorer Adam Arthur scored a 30th minute goal after assisting on teammate Jamie Lee Davies goal in the 17th minute.
“Adam Arthur had 10 goals and four assists this season,” said West Virginia Chaos Player/Coach, Chris Whalley. “He is a two time all American. He led our forward line well and is a player like many Chaos alumni, who is likely to make the jump into the professional level after his collegiate career is over.”
By winning the final match of the season, the Chaos made club history.
“Ending the season with victories over Hampton roads and the Virginia Legacy was the first time in franchise history where the team had achieved back-to-back wins on the road,” said Whalley.
Expected back for the 2010 season are: Whalley, Adam Mitchell, James Stapleton and Chris Bohach. Since the 2004 season, those four players have combined to play 172 games for the Chaos. Over that period Whalley, Mitchell Stapleton and Bohach have scored 12 goals and added 14 assists.
