VAUGHN, ONTARIO – The Thunder Bay Chill Reserve U17 boys will make history as the first ever Chill youth team to gain a berth at the Ontario Provincial Championship on September 19, 2009 in Southern Ontario.
The boys defeated Tecumseh, 2-1 Sunday afternoon in North York, Ontario in a close battle. Gavin Hoy of the Chill Reserves led with a goal in the 37th minute. However, Tecumseh replied quickly evening the match just before halftime at one goal apiece.
The second half saw the Chill Reserves squander many opportunities as they tried to get the go ahead goal. That goal finally came in the 77th minute when Michael Manzini found the ball with his head off a Chill corner kick to secure the semifinal victory, 2-1 over Tecumseh.
The team returned home Monday and will continue to train and finish league play prior to travelling to Southern Ontario for the Ontario Cup Provincial Championship game against Simcoe on Saturday, September 19th.
