READING, PA – The Rage were adjusting to a 3-5-2 formation in the beginning of Wednesday’s match against the Royals but adapted quickly, downing the Northern Virginians 4-0 by the final whistle.
The recent additions of US U20 Men’s National Teamers Andrew Wenger and Zarek Valentin paid dividends as the Rage jumped out to a 2-0 lead with an Adam Welch (Hogan assist) goal in the third minute and an Adam Gazda (Taranto assist) tally in the 12th minute.
The Rage controlled the possession and play for the middle part of the half before adding goals in the 32nd minute (Wheeler goal, Quinn assist) and the 39th minute blast by Jimmy Taranto (Wenger assist).
The Rage dominated both sides of the ball in the first half, outshooting the NV Royals 8-0.
As the second half got underway the Rage quickly reasserted themselves and once again dictated play.
The Rage stretched the Royals and maintained possession and pressure. The Royals best opportunity of the day came and went as, Rage keeper Jeremy Vuolo parried away a one-on-one shot to preserve the clean sheet and win for the Rage.
The win secured the Rage’s second straight Mid Atlantic Division regular season crown and the No. 1 seed for the July 24-26 PDL Divisional Playoff. The Mid Atlantic Divisional Playoff will be hosted by the Rage with the date, time and opponent to be determined.
