NASHVILLE, TN -- The Nashville Metros traveled to Baton Rouge Friday night seeking revenge for a 1-0 loss suffered at the hands of the Capitals earlier in the season, but were only able to manage a 1-1 draw.
The game was played at a frenetic pace as both teams were looking for quick counter attacks. The first half saw both teams squander numerous scoring opportunities.
Baton Rouge drew first blood as a cross found the head of a Capitals attacker. After an initial save by Metros goalkeeper Kyle Roelke, Capitals Chris Anderson was able to poke in the rebound for the goal.
The Metros responded in the second half, as they came out determined to even the score. Nashville’s increased intensity showed in the form of several hard tackles that took their toll on the Capitals players.
As the second half progressed, the aggressive play picked up. Several Metros players were shown yellow cards, and neither team saw the scoring opportunities that they saw in the first half.
The Metros finally broke through in the 87th minute as midfielder Mark Photivihok’s shot was ricocheted in the goal by rookie Will Maddux. Maddux, from Pope John High School, scored in his debut for the Metros. His assist came from the Metros all-time leader in minutes played, Mark Photivihok.
Nashville will travel to New Orleans on Saturday. They will need to contain forward Brandon Chagnard, who has scored in every game this season, if they hope to pull out a victory.
