NASHVILLE, TN -- The Nashville Metros proved more than Panama City could handle Saturday night defeating the Pirates 2-0. The game marks the team’s first home win of the 2009 campaign.

Nashville’s strong defense, led by newcomer Dan Williams in goal, stymied Panama City’s attack and recorded Nashville’s first shutout of the season.
The action picked up in the second half when the Metros were awarded one of their 5 corner kicks. After the ball was initially cleared by the Pirate’s defense, Ryon Simon crossed the ball back in front of the goal and found midfielder Erick Montalvan for the go ahead goal.
The Metros struck again less than 10 minutes later when a shot taken by Santi Snellgrose was deflected into the Pirates' goal by Dustin Dawes.
Panama City’s frustrations showed in the 64th minute when Pirates defender Eduardo Oliveira was shown the red card for a vicious kick to the chest of an oncoming Metros forward.
The remainder of the game saw the tensions of both teams rise, but aggressive play did not lead to any further goals and the game ended with a 2-0 Metros victory.
The Metros will play again in Nashville on Saturday at 7 p.m. when they host the Atlanta Blackhawks, a team the Nashville Metros defeated 3-2 earlier this season.
