BROOKLYN, NY – One final game is all that remains in the race to qualify for the 2009 North American Finals. And of the 3,061 games slated to be played in USL’s Super Y-League this season, this Sunday’s U16 girls match between the Long Island Rough Riders and the Brooklyn Knights is the only one scheduled for this weekend.
Three points behind the current fourth place team in the U16 girls Mid Atlantic Division, Princeton SC (5-3-1, 13 points) – the Long Island Rough Riders (4-2-1, 10 points) hold the head-to-head tiebreaker in the standings based on their 1-0 win over Princeton on Thursday, July 16.
The Rough Riders won that match via a Martine Diamond goal. She was assisted on the play by Maria Jones. The team’s leading scorer during the regular season was Darlann Sellitti. She found the back of the net four times this season.
On the other side of the pitch, the home-standing Brooklyn Knights will have nearly as much motivation as the Rough Riders when they take the field on Sunday. The Knights are 0-4-1 this season and looking to end their season on a high note. Despite their adversity this year, Brooklyn’s U16’s tied Match Fit Chelsea, 2-2 on Tuesday, July 7. Match Fit ended their season in seventh place.
Brooklyn also played well against Quickstrike FC on the opening day of their season. They lost 1-0 to Quickstrike, who was the second place team in the division, on Sunday, May 17. Head-to-head with the division winning Washington Freedom, Brooklyn fell 2-0 at home on Sunday, August 9.
This weekend’s match is slated to begin on Sunday, September 27 at 4:00PM ET on Brooklyn’s Grand Street Field.
