SALEM, OR -- Playing their second game in two nights the Surge looked tired but confident as the defense recorded their third straight shutout and Grant Knight came off the bench to score the winning goal over the visiting Whitecaps from Vancouver.

The victory propeled the Surge into a tie with Portland for third place, both teams with identical 7-3-1 records for 22 points, while Vancouver fell to 2-5-2.

"It is really amazing how the boys played tonight." said Surge Coach Mike Alfers. "We were tired from the win over Portland the night before but the guys know we have a chance for playoffs, so they did what they had to. The win was a areal credit to Aaron Patrick, Ben Sippola and Tommy Milroy who all logged 90 minutes both nights."

With the win the Surge have now gone six matches without a loss.

"It seems that the 90th minute goal that tied league leaders Kitsap 2-2, has propel us on this streak," said Surge President Dave Irby. "We have now won five straight matches since that tie." Irby added that, "I am especially happy for Grant as he has been leading the guys in our outreach activities including the trips to Austria and Mexico, so he hasn't had as much practice time as the rest of the team."

The Surge travel to Canada next Friday for matches with Abbotsford (July 3) and Vancouver (July 5) before coming come to face Seattle on July 11th in Salem.
