SALEM, OR – Teteh Bangura scored in the second and forty-seventh minute to give the Cascade Surge a 2-0 victory over their new "in state" rivals, the Portland Timbers U23 in front of 367 fans.
Not only did the win extend the Surge's unbeated streak to five games it also made them a factor in the NW Division playoff race.
The Surge are now 6-3-1 while the Timbers fell to 7-3-1, leaving the Surge with a chance to tie the Timbers for third place Saturday night when they host the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency program.
"We are excited that our team is starting to play good soccer," said Head Coach Mike Alfers, after the game. "It was nice to avenge the 4-2 loss we had to the Timbers earlier in the season, but more important we are now a playoff contenter."
