FC London defender Anthony DiBiase named Player of the Week

USL Press Release

Wednesday, June 24

TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced today the Premier Development League Team of the Week honoring FC London’s Anthony DiBiase as Player of the Week after his three assist performance in his side’s two wins.

The defender first posted two assists and a shutout in a 5-0 win over a previously undefeated Kalamazoo Outrage team. For an encore, DiBiase picked out teammate Tom Beattie, who scored the only goal of the game in the second half of FC London’s 1-0 win over the Indiana Invaders on Sunday – the team’s second straight shutout.

Another strong defensive performance came from Cincinnati goalkeeper Matt Williams, who stopped a combined 10 shots in consecutive shutout wins over the Cleveland Internationals and Michigan Bucks.

Sheanon Williams, a defender for the US Under-20 National Team, posted a one goal, two assist week for the Carolina Dynamo. Williams’ goal came in the 35th minute, putting Carolina up 2-0 over the Northern Virginia Royals. Northern Virginia forward David Atkinson then pulled the Royals back to within one goal, finding the back of the net just before halftime. After the break, Carolina’s Arie Muniz scored to make it 3-1 in favor of the Dynamo. Williams was credited with an assist on the play.

The Dynamo played the second game of their road trip the following night in Fredericksburg, where Williams picked up an assist on the game-winning goal scored by Scott Rojo in the 72nd minute.

Brent Whitfield continued his hot-streak, scoring a hat-trick and adding an assist in the Los Angeles Legends 5-0 win over the Ogden Outlaws. Los Angeles sits in third place, one game off the pace set by the division leading Hollywood Hitmen in the Southwest.

Whitfield in now tied for third-most points this season with Newark Ironbound Express’ Jerrod Laventure. Both have 19 points this season. The Reading Rage’s Aaron Wheeler, who netted four goals in a 5-1 win over the Virginia Legacy this past week, sits in second with 22 points. Kalamazoo’s Tom Oatley leads the league with 28 points.
