Academics End Regular Season with Tie
still in 1st place

Monday, July 13th, 2009 jdimgpdl65

The Bradenton Academics at IMG Academies are one of nearly 70 teams from around the country representing the United Soccer Leagues in the Premier Development League, which mainly consists of college-age players. The league will run throughout the summer.

Even before a 1-1 tie against Panama City on Sunday, the Bradenton Academics knew that they’re in the playoffs.

Because of that tie, though, whether they’ll get a home playoff game or not will depend on a Mississippi/Central Florida match this Saturday.

A goal by Steven Morris in the 70th minute salvaged a tie for Bradenton at Academy Park yesterday, after Panama City opened the scoring 12 minutes prior. The tie gives Bradenton 32 points, with Mississippi just behind with 30. The Brilla must win their final game on Saturday to get home-field advantage in the upcoming playoffs.

If Mississippi ties or loses, Bradenton will host the winner of the No. 2 vs. No. 3 Southeast Division game to see which team will advance.

Forward Zak Boggs finished the regular season as Bradenton’s leading scorer with 9 goals. Ederson Lopes followed with seven.
