USL News Release
Wednesday, June 3, 2009
TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues announced today the Team of the Week honors for the sixth week of USL Premier Development League action, honoring the Colorado Foxes’ Brad Stisser as the PDL Player of the Week.
In back-to-back matches against the defending PDL Champion Thunder Bay Chill, Stisser played 118 minutes and scored three goals in a 1-1 draw on Friday and a 4-2 victory on Saturday.
Stisser’s first tally of the weekend came in just the sixth minute of Friday’s match and was the lone goal for the Foxes in the 1-1 draw. Thunder Bay answered in the 30th minute on a goal scored by Anderson Fernandes.
In the rematch played less than 24 hours later, Fernandes gave the Chill a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute on an assist from Chance Bukoski. Colorado’s Chris Salvaggione then put the Foxes on top with back-to-back goals in the 15th and 20th minutes before Thunder Bay answered with another first-half strike from midfielder Nolan Intermoia. Heading into the second frame tied 2-2, Stisser would be the difference. Seeking a more-offensive approach to the game in the 54th minute, Foxes head Coach Lorne Donaldson brought on Stisser for midfielder Mitch Lobdell.
The move paid immediate dividends. Stisser netted his first goal of the game in the 73rd minute to make it 3-2 Colorado. The assist on the play went to fellow 54th minute substitute Byron Cephers, who would also set up Stisser’s second goal of the match in the 90th minute.
Further west, the Hollywood Hitmen continued to chalk up PDL victories as they downed the BYU Cougars, 4-0 on Saturday and the Orange County Blue Star, 2-0 on Sunday. The most-prominent name of the week for the now 7-1-0 Hitmen was Armando Ochoa, who assisted on the second and scored the fourth goal in Hollywood’s 4-0 win. The following day, Ochoa played a hand in both goals, scoring the first in just the 7th minute before assisting on an insurance goal scored by Jose Diaz Munoz in the 39th minute.
Goalkeeper of the week accolades belongs to the New Orleans Jesters’ Steve Fabian, who traveled 1,336 miles to meet two of the four 2008 Southeastern Conference finalists (Bradenton Academics and Central Florida Kraze) on their own turf. Outshot 20-10 in Orlando on Friday, Fabian led the Jesters to a 0-0 draw by making eight saves, six of which came in the second half. For an encore, Fabian made a pair of saves in each half to lift the Jesters to a 2-1 victory on Sunday in Bradenton, Florida.
