PHOENIX (February 17, 2018) — Phoenix Rising FC fell to Sporting KC, 2-1, in its final Phoenix-based match of the Mobile Mini Sun Cup. The club will finish the MLS Preseason tournament with a match against Houston Dynamo on Wednesday and an additional Major League Soccer Club on Saturday.

Five minutes into the match, Phoenix Rising had its only lead over Sporting KC. Forward Kevaughn Frater broke free on the net thanks to a well-placed pass from midfielder Devin Vega. Frater beat the goalkeeper one-on-one for his second goal of the preseason. It was also the second time Frater received an assist from Vega.

The lead lasted just 12 minutes before Sporting KC's Ilie Sanchez equalized with a shot that deflected off a Phoenix Rising defender before getting past the goalkeeper. The visiting side took the lead for good in the 30th when Daniel Salloi finished off an impressive buildup into the box to make it 2-1.

Phoenix Rising will continue its run in the Mobile Mini Sun Cup on Wednesday in Tucson. The club will kickoff against Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo at 5 p.m. Phoenix Rising will then return to Tucson on Saturday to finish its Mobile Mini Sun Cup debut against a to-be-determined MLS club at 2 p.m. Tickets for the matches can be purchased at www.FCTucson.com.
