ATLANTA – ATL UTD 2 announced on Monday the signing of local standout Kevin Barajas. An Atlanta native and University of Kentucky standout, Barajas joins the club ahead of its inaugural season after competing at the University of Kentucky, and in the Premier Development League for the Cincinnati Dutch Lions FC.

“Kevin is a player I’ve known for quite some time and have followed his trajectory,” said ATL UTD 2 Head Coach Scott Donnelly. “As a local talent, it is great to see him come back to his roots to be part of our inaugural roster, as it speaks to the positive impact Atlanta United has made on the local soccer community.”

Originally from Atlanta, Ga. Barajas began his youth career under current Atlanta United Academy Director Tony Annan with Georgia United from 2012-14. He then attended the University of Kentucky, where he made 69 appearances during his four years in Lexington while scoring four goals and dishing out three assists. Barajas earned All-Conference USA Team honors while helping the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament in three of his four seasons.

Last summer, Barajas also competed for the Dutch Lions in the PDL, making eight appearances for the club before he returned to campus for his senior season.

FURY FC BRINGS MONSALVE ABOARD: Ottawa Fury FC announced it had added a third Canadian goalkeeper to its squad with former youth international David Monsalve joining the team pending league and federation approval.

“David is another Canadian that brings quality and experience to his position,” said Fury FC General Manager Julian de Guzman. “We have gathered a talented group of players and are looking forward to seeing what each of them contribute to the club’s success.”

Monsalve featured in 20 Canadian Youth National Team matches and represented Canada in the 2008 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying tournament. He also holds the notable achievement of becoming the youngest goalkeeper to play in Major League Soccer – a record that still stands – at 18 years, 7 months and 8 days old when he appeared for Toronto FC on July 29, 2007 against the Chicago Fire.

“This an opportunity to be a part of something historic, with the amount of Canadians on the team. We have a lot to prove and I want to be a part of that,” said Monsalve. “If you look at the roster, the coaching staff, guys I’m familiar with; to continue my career in an environment I feel very comfortable in only makes sense.”
