Midfielder Mats Bjurman Re-unites with Orange County SC for 2018 Season

Orange County native returns back to Southern California.

IRVINE, Calif. (February 7, 2018) – Orange County Soccer Club announced the signing of Mats Bjurman, pending league and federation approval.  Raised in Irvine, Bjurman returns to Orange County following a successful year with Saint Louis FC in 2017. The dependable midfielder started 21 times in 27 appearances for the club, and recorded 2 goals. 

“Mats is a player that I have been familiar with from his youth days and his time playing with Orange County two years ago,” said Orange County SC Head Coach Braeden Cloutier.  “He is the type of player whose tireless work ethic and positive attitude is what I am looking to build the foundation of this team with.  He has great abilities and has shown his versatility in this League, but as he has matured, he will have a more simplified role in the upcoming season.”

Bjurman had a strong collegiate career with UC Irvine, making 81 appearances and scoring 5 goals.  Simultaneously, he appeared for the Premier Development League (PDL) side Orange County SC’s U-23’s, making 32 appearances and scoring 2 goals for the club. In 2016, Bjurman made is professional debut for Orange County SC’s first team recording 1 goal and 4 assists and helped lead the club to a Western Conference Play-off Semi-Final, totaling 23 appearances for the club.
