Becher assumes new role as club’s Technical Advisor in 2018

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Penn FC announced on Tuesday it had appointed Rush Soccer President and CEO Tim Schulz as the club’s new General Manager, bringing aboard the experienced soccer executive to lead the club’s front office as it builds toward the 2018 USL season.

The club also announced that longtime Head Coach Bill Becher had taken a new role as Technical Advisor, with the appointment of a new Head Coach expected prior to the start of Penn FC’s preseason next month.

As Rush Soccer’s President and CEO, Schulz brought both professional playing experience and a unique coaching mantra to the organization he founded in 1997 in Littleton, Colorado. In the years following Rush Soccer’s formation, Schulz served as the Head Coach of the U.S. U20 Women’s National Team in 2005 and 2006, Head Coach for the Region IV Olympic Development Program from 2000-04 and was the assistant coach for the U.S. U18 Men’s National Team from 1998-2000.

“The owners of the team, George Altirs and Eric Pettis, have entrusted me in this position and I am grateful for that,” said Schulz. “There are a lot of good staff in Harrisburg and I look forward to working together to do something special.”

Becher steps aside having been the only Head Coach in the club’s 15-year history, in which time he led the team to a pair of appearances this decade in the USL Cup, and the USL Second Division championship in 2007. Becher accumulated more than 130 regular-season victories, and on four occasions led the side to the Quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

“It’s been a great run here in Harrisburg,” said Becher. “I’m looking forward to a new challenge in helping the first team to continue to have success both on and off the field. It’s an exciting time in Harrisburg — the future looks bright and we’re excited going into the 2018 season.”
