TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa Roughnecks FC announced on Friday the club had signed Canadian defender Terence Smith, pending league and federation approval. The 26-year-old former Northeastern State University signed with the club after having spent time training with the Roughnecks last year.

During his time at NSU, Smith was twice named to the All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association First Team twice, and earned Daktronics Division II All-Central Region First Team honors on a pair of occasions. He was also a part a RiverHawks’ defense that lowered the school record for fewest goals allowed in three consecutive years. In 2014, the Smith-led defense helped earn NSU its first and only undefeated conference season and MIAA tournament championship.

In 2016, Smith played locally with Tulsa Athletic, and following the season was invited to train with a variety of clubs in Mexico’s Liga Ascenso. He also previously played in the Premier Development League for the Toronto Lynx, and featured on the club’s former Super-20 League side that reached the league championship game in 2011.
