SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Tuesday it had extended its loan of Jamaican international Omar Gordon from Montego Bay United for the 2018 USL season. The deal is pending league and federation approval and per club policy, terms of the loan were not disclosed.

A member of Jamaica’s 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup side that reached the tournament’s final against the United States, Gordon made 11 regular season appearances after joining San Antonio last August. The midfielder recorded one goal and two assists in that span, and started both of the club’s games in the 2017 USL Cup Playoffs.

“It’s a great feeling to come back to SAFC,” said Gordon. “I’m very happy to be back with the team and play a full season in San Antonio. I hope to have a great year and I’m very excited to be in San Antonio again.”

Gordon was one of the key figures in Jamaica’s run in last year’s Gold Cup, as he appeared in all six games during the Reggae Boyz run, including going the full 90 minutes in Jamaica’s 1-0 victory against Mexico in the tournament’s semifinals. Gordon has made 10 appearances overall for his country, and SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell is eager to see what the 26-year-old will bring this year.

“Omar joined us midseason last year and showed some great promise,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “His effort and professionalism were very good and we expect him to continue growing with us this year and contribute even more for San Antonio FC in 2018.”
