Energy FC Inks Ibeagha to Deal

Local product arrives after stints with Switchbacks, NCFC

OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC announced on Monday it had signed center back Christian Ibeagha for the 2018 USL season, pending league and federation approval. 

A former member of Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, Ibeagha made 28 matches appearances for North Carolina FC in the 2017 season, during which he scored scored two goals and played 2,520 minutes. Ibeagha recorded 96 clearances, 29 interceptions and won 41 of 72 aerial duels for NCFC a season ago as he played every minute in each of his 28 starts.

“We are delighted to be adding Christian to the roster for the 2018 season,” said Energy FC Head Coach Steve Cooke. “Not only is he an accomplished and experienced professional, he is a person of the highest character. Throughout his career, he has shown the abilities to be a consistent and high-performing player and has displayed the understanding needed to be an excellent defender for the club. We're thrilled to be welcoming Christian and his family home to Oklahoma City.”

Ibeagha had previously helped the Switchbacks reach the USL Cup Playoffs in the 2016 season, making 30 appearances as Colorado Springs finished tied for fifth-fewest goals conceded in the regular season with 27 goals against.  

A native of Nigeria, Ibeagha competed for Deer Creek High School in nearby Edmond, Okla. before stellar collegiate career at Duke University. During his four seasons with the Blue Devils, Ibeagha appeared in 61 matches, played 4,915 minutes, scored one goal and added two assists. He also competed in the Premier Development League, competing for IMG Bradenton Academy and the Carolina Dynamo during his college career.
