ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Four top clubs from Major League Soccer will join the Tampa Bay Rowdies for the 2018 Rowdies Suncoast Invitational at Al Lang Stadium in February, with the third edition of the premier preseason tournament set to feature world-class talent in downtown St. Petersburg.

D.C. United, New York City FC, the Montreal Impact and Philadelphia Union will join the Rowdies as they gear up for the new MLS season, with the Rowdies set to unveil some of their new offseason additions for the first time ahead of the 2018 USL regular season.

Among the players set to feature will be NYCFC’s David Villa, a 2010 FIFA World Cup-winner with Spain who in 2016 claimed the Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player award for his current club. U.S. Men’s National Team members Paul Arriola (D.C.) and Alejandro Bedoya (Philadelphia) will also feature for their respective clubs, as will Argentinian midfielder and 2016 MLS Best XI selection Ignacio Piatti (Montreal).

For the third straight year, the Impact will have an extended visit to St. Petersburg for their preseason training camp. During their time in the Sunshine City, the Impact will call Al Lang Stadium home, using the field, locker room and gym facilities alongside the Rowdies.

“This is the perfect opportunity for fans to show Major League Soccer teams that St. Petersburg is a Major League city,” said Rowdies Chairman & CEO Bill Edwards. “Playing against some of the best clubs in North America is a great way for the Rowdies to prepare for another record-breaking season. Our fans deserve to watch world-class players at Al Lang Stadium, while getting their first chance to see their very own 2018 Tampa Bay Rowdies.  It’s clear the Tampa Bay area is becoming a hotbed for professional soccer.”
