CARY, N.C.Steven Miller and Marcel Kandziora will both be back with North Carolina FC for the 2018 USL season after the club announced on Tuesday it had re-signed both players pending league and federation approval.

Miller will enter his fourth season in North Carolina this spring, having previously played in the USL for Tulsa Roughnecks FC. Miller logged 2,436 minutes in 27 matches for NCFC last season, notching five goals and three assists, including a stunning strike from distance against the Houston Dynamo in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on June 14.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing in the USL,” said Miller. “We want to be a contender, and that’s why I’m back here. We want to win games, make the playoffs and make a run at bringing a championship back to Raleigh.”

Kanziora made 15 appearances across all competitions in the 2017 season for NCFC after an early-season injury had sidelined the German midfielder.

“I am confident that we will have a great team for the USL,” said the 27-year-old. “I look forward to playing another season with my teammates and working with the staff to reach our goals.”

ROSS HEADS TO OKC: Callum Ross became the first new addition this offseason by OKC Energy FC on Tuesday, with the former Charlotte Independence midfielder making the move to the Midwest for his second professional season.

A former standout at Wingate University, Ross made 29 appearances to help the Independence reach the USL Cup Playoffs for the second consecutive season in his rookie year. The 23-year-old Englishman was tied for seventh on the team with 2,112 minutes of action, and notched one goal and one assist.

“I watched Callum closely in 2017, and I know he has the right playing qualities and character traits to bring a great deal to our group,” said Energy FC Head Coach Steve Cooke. “He is a very hard working, composed midfield player who has shown that he can make a big impact in our league. I look forward to working with him and our whole team as we strive for a successful 2018 campaign.”

BATTERY RE-SIGN RITTMEYER: Local standout Nico Rittmeyer has re-signed with the Charleston Battery for the new season after making 13 appearances for the club in his rookie year.

A former standout at the College of Charleston, Rittmeyer played for the SC Battery Academy throughout his youth career, and also featured in the Premier Development League with Battery affiliate the South Georgia Tormenta.
