Pair of USL Veterans Return to Strengthen Club Roster

San Antonio FC re-signed defender-midfielder Ryan Roushandel and forward Mike Seth for the 2018 USL season pending league and federation approval, the club announced today. Per club policy, terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Roushandel was a key piece of the SAFC roster in 2017, appearing in 10 straight USL matches and two playoff games to end the season. Overall, he appeared in 12 USL matches, tallying 753 minutes along with one Open Cup game and 156 total playoff minutes. Roushandel scored his first goal for the club on Oct. 11 against Portland Timbers 2 – a game-winner that clinched a home playoff game for SAFC. Overall, the 32-year-old has appeared in 15 USL matches for SAFC since joining prior to the 2016 season. In addition to his playing duties, Roushandel also serves as a coach in the SAFC Pro Academy.

“Ryan is Mr. San Antonio FC,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “He has several different roles within the club, and towards the end of 2017, his contributions on the field were first-class. He’s a thorough professional who comes in and competes every day, and we’re excited to see him in whatever role he’s asked to do in 2018.”

Prior to joining SAFC, Roushandel spent time with the Austin Aztex (USL) in 2015 where he made 13 appearances and five starts, playing in 456 minutes of action. The Atlanta native also spent time with the Atlanta Silverbacks of the NASL, playing almost 2,000 minutes and scoring one goal in 2014. Aside from his time in the USL and NASL, Roushandel also played in the first division of Costa Rica, making eight appearances for Brujas from 2009-10 in the Primera Division. The veteran attended college and played soccer at Clemson University before transferring to the University of Central Florida.

“I couldn’t be more excited and proud to continue to be a part of our city and our club,” said Roushandel. “This place has become very special to me and representing the club and city is something I take a lot of pride in as a player, coach and resident. I can’t wait to build off of last season and compete to bring a trophy to San Antonio.”

Seth joined SAFC from Phoenix Rising FC last season in August and made six appearances with the Alamo City club, recording five shots and creating three total chances in 200 minutes. While with Phoenix, Seth played in four games, making two starts and recording four shots in 154 total minutes played while completing 64.5 percent of his passes. He also appeared in both of Phoenix’s Open Cup matches, scoring a goal against the Fresno Fuego in the second round of the tournament.

“We’re looking forward to Mike’s return,” said Powell. “He joined us late last season and contributed with his high work rate on a daily basis. We’re looking forward to having him in the preseason and getting him fully integrated into the team.”

The 6-1 forward enjoyed an impressive 2016 season with the Colorado Springs Switchbacks, helping his club to a third-place finish in the USL Western Conference standings before being eliminated in the conference quarterfinals by Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. Seth led the Switchbacks in goals (eight) and assists (five) while tallying 2,074 minutes over 28 regular season matches. Seth also played 90 minutes in the club’s lone playoff game against the Whitecaps in 2016. In two seasons with the Switchbacks from 2015-16, Seth appeared in 54 games, scoring 12 goals and recording eight assists.

The 30-year-old has made 121 USL appearances since 2011 with the Switchbacks, Phoenix Rising, Pittsburgh Riverhounds and SAFC. Seth originally signed with the Riverhounds in 2010 when they competed in USL Division 2 after spending time with the Colorado Rapids (MLS) U-23 side while still in college.

“I am looking forward to next season,” said Seth. “I am ready to get back to work with the team and work collectively to improve on our 2017 finish.”

Seth attended Penn State Behrend and played collegiate soccer from 2005-09. He was a four-time all-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference player and helped lead the lions to the AMCC championship title in 2007.
