SANDY, Utah – Real Monarchs SLC announced on Thursday it had signed former USL Cup-winner Konrad Plewa for the 2018 season. The former New York Red Bulls II and Saint Louis FC defender will enter his fourth season in the league as part of the defending USL Regular Season champions. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

“Konrad brings a wealth of experience to our backline. We are excited to add a player of his caliber, someone who knows this league and can help contribute from day one,” Monarchs Assistant General Manager Dan Egner said. “He adds a bit of a different look for us, and we think he’ll step right in and gel with this group immediately.”

The 6-foot-3 center back made 20 appearances in the 2017 season for Saint Louis, and recorded 99 clearances and 49 interceptions for the side. Plewa has made 73 appearances overall in the USL, and helped the Red Bulls II claim the 2016 USL Cup in his second season in New York.

Plewa is the second addition to the Monarchs’ defensive corps this offseason, joining David Diosa in a back-line contingent that also includes the returning Michael Gallagher and James Moberg. The Monarchs conceded 32 goals in 32 games last season, one of the best defensive records in the USL Western Conference.
