NASHVILLE – Nashville SC announced on Tuesday it had traded for attacking midfielder Lebo Moloto of the Swope Park Rangers, bringing one of the premier attacking midfielders in the USL to the Music City in exchange for future considerations. The trade is pending league and federation approval.

Moloto has made 85 appearances in the USL over the past three seasons, and in the 2017 season helped the Rangers claim the USL Western Conference Championship for a second consecutive year. The South African recorded seven goals and four assists for the Rangers in the 2017 season, a single-season career-high in goals, while also recording 52 key passes as part of a pass-completion rate of 84.1 percent.

“Lebo is a dynamic combination of creative ability and team-first mentality,” said Nashville SC Head Coach Gary Smith. “He has a graceful appreciation of the ball when in possession and is capable of making and scoring goals on his own or linking with others. On top of that, his genuine attitude makes him a terrific team player with a totally unselfish approach.”

Moloto had spent his first two seasons in the USL with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, where he helped the club reach the 2015 USL Cup Playoffs with six goals and seven assists in his first season in the league. A former standout for the Des Moines Menace in the Premier Development League, Moloto was also a two -time NAIA National Champion at Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in 2009 and 2011, taking the NAIA National Championship MVP honor in 2011.

“From day one we have been looking for ways to create a competitive advantage in building out our roster,” said Nashville SC Technical Director Mike Jacobs. “Adding a player of the caliber of Lebo was an opportunity we had to take advantage of, and we were fortunate to work out a deal that enabled us to do so.”
