ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Saint Louis FC announced its first new addition of the offeason on Friday with two-time USL Golden Glove-winner Tomas Gomez joining the club for the 2018 USL season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

A native of Montemorelos, Mexico, Gomez grew up in the St. Louis area where he played in the St. Louis Scott Gallagher youth system. He returns to the area having claimed the USL Golden Glove, awarded to the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-against average over the season, in the past two seasons with the Rochester Rhinos.

“For me when I heard Saint Louis was an option, it was a no-brainer for me,” said Gomez. “I grew up five minutes away from the stadium and this place is what helped me get to where I am today. I’ve heard so much about the fans and community that supports the club and that is something I want to be a part of – I want to be a part of the process that gets the team to be a championship contender.”

Prior to his professional career, Gomez attended Georgetown University and made 81 appearances for the Hoyas, while also competing for two seasons with the PDL’s Orlange City U23 in 2013-14. A Third Round-selection in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by Columbus Crew SC, Gomez began his career with the San Jose Earthquakes before joining the Rhinos ahead of the 2016 USL season. Gomez made 42 appearances for the Rhinos over the past two seasons, and recorded 20 shutouts as the side reached the Eastern Conference Semifinals of the USL Cup Playoffs in both seasons.

“Tomas has proven over the last couple of years he’s one of the top goalkeepers in USL, so we’re absolutely delighted to have signed him,” said STLFC Head Coach Anthony Pulis. “The fact that he’s from St. Louis and has an affinity with the community here is also a huge bonus.”
