PHOENIX – Phoenix Rising FC announced on Thursday it had re-signed three more players for the 2018 USL season, with Jamaican forward Jason Johnson and midfielder Kevon Lambert and versatile midfielder/defender Amadou Dia all set to return to the club for a second season. The signings are pending league and federation approval.

Johnson had a standout season in Phoenix, leading the club with 13 goals and chipping in three assists in 30 appearances on the season. A former player for San Antonio FC, Johnson also recorded 20 key passes as Rising FC earned a fifth-place finish and its first trip to the USL Cup Playoffs this past season.

Lambert joined Rising FC after a stellar display at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where the midfielder helped Jamaica reach the final against the United States. Lambert made 10 appearances to wrap up the season with Rising FC and performed strongly in the center of midfield, winning 25 of 28 tackles and recording 18 interceptions.

“I’m very happy to be back in Phoenix and I can’t wait to get started,” Lambert said. “Last season was a good one, but it wasn’t completed. So this season, we will be working to get the job done.”

Dia also joined Rising FC in midseason, and had a strong impact in the club’s push to the postseason despite being limited to five appearances by injury. The former Sporting Kansas City player recorded three goals and one assist for the side going forward, while averaging 43.7 passes per 90 minutes.

“The atmosphere and chemistry from the fans to the owners was unbelievable last year,” Dia said. “I can’t wait to see what happens this year.”
