Foxes begin building roster with experienced USL Cup-winning duo

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Football Club unveiled its first signings in club history on Tuesday, with former USL Cup-winners Mickey Daly and Agustin Cazarez joining the 2018 USL expansion club for its inaugural season. The signings are pending league and federation approval.

Daly and Cazarez were part of Sacramento Republic FC’s 2014 USL Cup-winning side, and are familiar to Fresno FC Head Coach Adam Smith, who coached both during his time as an assistant for Republic FC.

“The reason why I chose them is because they’re consistent,” said Smith. “They know the league. They are both of great character and hard-working, and I know what I’m going get with them by signing them.”

“There’s no up and down with either player. With Auggie and Mickey, they’re very consistent in the positions they play and that’s invaluable. You need that steadiness, strength and stability in the heart of the field and at the base of the team’s spine, and for me that is crucial.”

Daly helped OKC Energy FC reach the Western Conference Final of the 2017 USL Cup Playoffs in the past season. The 30-year-old center back made 27 appearances for Energy FC as he logged a total of 2,314 minutes and recorded 50 interceptions and 50 clearances defensively. Daly recently surpassed 100 appearances in the USL for his career.

Cazarez spent the past four seasons with Republic FC, making 30 appearances in the 2017 season for the club. The 28-year-old midfielder recorded three goals and three assists in 2017, while also recording 48 interceptions and a passing accuracy rate of 85.1 percent on 1,600 total passes for the season.
