TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa Roughnecks FC announced on Friday it had signed one of the cornerstones of its standout season to a new two-year contract, with goalkeeper Fabian Cerda set to remain with the club through the 2019 USL season. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

“It was extremely important for us to re-sign Fabian," said Roughnecks Head Coach David Vaudreuil. “He played a big part in our success last season. Fabian has the ability to win games by himself, in an exciting fashion. He is popular with our fans, and we are happy to have him for the next two years.”

Cerda finished tied for fourth in the USL with 90 saves across the 2017 USL regular season and USL Cup Playoffs and tied for seventh with nine shutouts in 24 appearances. His performances helped the Roughnecks earn a place in the postseason for the first time in their modern history.

The 28-year-old Chilean also played a key role in the Roughnecks’ victory against San Antonio FC in the Third Round of the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, as he outdueled eventual USL Goalkeeper of the Year Diego Restrepo in a penalty shootout to send Tulsa into a Fourth-Round meeting with FC Dallas of Major League Soccer.

Cerda joined the Roughnecks prior to the 2017 USL season from Transandino in his native Chile, where he made 42 appearances for the club. His professional career began in Chile's First Division at CD Universidad Católica in 2009, after coming up through the team's youth system. He remained with Católica through 2015, but was loaned to Cobresal in 2014 and appeared in three matches.
