Claimed League of Ireland Premier Division twice with Dundalk FC

CINCINNATI – FC Cincinnati announced a second defensive addition of the offseason on Friday as former Dundalk FC defender Paddy Barrett signed with the club, pending federation and league approval.

“Paddy is a tough uncompromising center back who also has the technical skills to play out from the back,” said FCC Head Coach Alan Koch. “He has had some amazing experiences for a young player and has learned a lot from these appearances in major European competitions. We expect him to come in and compete for a starting position immediately.”

A 24-year-old native of Waterford, Ireland, Barrett made 50 appearances for Dundalk over the past three years. With Dundalk, Barrett also competed in UEFA Champions League qualifiers in 2015 and 2016 and in a playoff round of the Europa League in 2016-17.

Barrett helped Dundalk claim the League of Ireland Premier Division championship in both 2015 and 2016, while also winning the FAI Cup as a member of the club two years ago.

More recently he competed for his hometown club, Waterford United FC before making the move to Cincinnati, and brings experience from the Scottish Premiership with Dundee United FC, where he started he career in 2010.
