CHICAGO – 2016 USL Cup-winner Tyler Adams was among those selected in the United States Men’s National Team’s 21-player squad to face Portugal on Nov. 14 at the Estádio Dr.Magalhães Pessoa. Adams was joined in the squad by 2013 USL Cup Most Valuable Player and current Orlando City SC standout Dom Dwyer, and former Pittsburgh Riverhounds loanee Jesse Gonzalez in USMNT Interim Head Coach Dave Sarachan’s squad.

Adams was the first signing in New York Red Bulls II history prior to the 2015 USL season, and made 33 appearances over two seasons for the side before a breakout year with the Red Bulls in Major League Soccer this year. The No. 5 selection in the 2016 USL 20 Under 20, Adams was a key part of the Red Bulls II side that claimed both the 2016 USL Regular Season Championship and 2016 USL Cup.

Dwyer returns to the squad after playing a part in the United States’ victory at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, having scored two goals in three previous appearances for the USMNT. The 27-year-old shared the 2013 USL Golden Boot with 15 goals while on loan from Sporting Kansas City to Orlando City SC four years ago, and then was named the 2013 USL Cup Most Valuable Player after recording a four-goal performance in the Lions’ 7-4 victory against the Charlotte Eagles in front of 20,886 fans at the Florida Citrus Bowl.

Gonzalez made his professional debut for the Riverhounds on loan from FC Dallas in the 2015 USL regular season, and has since gone on to become one of the top young goalkeepers in the country. The 22-year-old has made 50 total appearances for FC Dallas in the MLS regular season and postseason, and could be in line for his international debut against Portugal.

Also named to the squad is former PDL player Josh Sargent, who becomes the first player selected for the U.S. U17, U20 and full national team in the same calendar year. A former player for Saint Louis FC U23 in the PDL, Sargent played alongside Adams at this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup as the side reached the quarterfinals, and then competed for the U.S. at the FIFA U17 World Cup, also advancing to the quarterfinals.
