Five candidates selected for standout performances over the past month

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL announced on Thursday the five nominees for the USL Player of the Month award for October, with top performers from the past month of the season selected for the ballot.

Voting in the USL Player of the Month Award will be conducted by the following three voting bodies:

  • The USL Technical Committee’s ballots comprise 34 percent of the poll.
  • The USL National Media Panel’s ballots comprise 33 percent of the poll.
  • A fan vote on USLSoccer.com will comprise the remaining 33 percent of the poll. The fan vote will run through Monday, October 9 at 9 a.m. ET.

The award winner and complete voting results will be announced on Thursday, October 26.

Please note: The USL Player of the Month selections process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as USL MVP or position players of the year.

2017 USL Player of the Month Nominees – October

  • Jose Angulo, F, OKC Energy FC – Angulo was the driving force as Energy FC ended the regular season with three wins in October. The Colombian forward had six goals and three assists in those three contests, including a hat trick against the LA Galaxy II.
     
  • Ever Guzman, F, San Antonio FC – Guzman broke through to lead San Antonio into second place in the Western Conference with four goals and one assist in three games as SAFC went 2-0-1 to close out the regular season.
     
  • Irvin Parra, M, Orange County SC – Parra made a sterling effort to push Orange County into the USL Cup Playoffs as he recorded three goals and two assists in the club’s final three games of the regular season to move to double-digits in both for the season, the first player in USL history to do so.
     
  • Stefano Bonomo, F, New York Red Bulls II – Bonomo helped the Red Bulls II return to the playoffs with four goals in three games to close out the season, giving the standout forward double-digit goals for the first time in his professional career.
     
  • Odisnel Cooper, GK, Charleston Battery – Cooper recorded two shutouts in three games as the Battery earned second place in the Eastern Conference as the Cuban goalkeeper posted a 0.33 goals-against average and 90.0 save percentage.
