Rochester Rhinos news and notes

  • Current record: 12-7-11, 47pts

  • The Rhinos took a 2-0 win against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Highmark Stadium on Saturday night to end a five-game winless streak for the side.

  • Both Rhinos goals came in the first 15 minutes with Jochen Graf scoring after just 22 seconds before Wal Fall added a second in the 14th minute. A strong defensive effort gave the Rhinos the win, keeping the Riverhounds without a shot on target through the match.

  • With the win the Rhinos sealed their place in the USL Cup Playoffs for a fourth consecutive year and moved within a point of the fourth-place Charlotte Independence in the Eastern Conference standings.

  • The Rhinos hold a game in hand on the Independence going into the final week of the regular season, meaning a pair of victories would see the side host at least one game at Capelli Sport Stadium in the postseason.

  • The Rhinos have recorded 325 total shots this season, the fourth-fewest in the league this season, and has converted only 12.6 percent of its scoring chances this season to sit tied for 21st in the league.

Bethlehem Steel FC news and notes

  • Current record: 12-11-7, 43pts

  • Steel FC boosted its playoff hopes with a 4-2 win against Toronto FC II on Friday night at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

  • Santi Moar scored two goals and provided an assist to star in the win, while Derrick Jones and Seku Conneh added the other two goals as Bethlehem moved back into the playoff positions in the Eastern Conference.

  • Steel FC's victory against Toronto moved its current undefeated streak to six games. The side is now in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings, and would move within a point of the Rhinos for fifth with a win on Tuesday night.

  • Victory on Tuesday night would seal Steel FC's first trip to the USL Cup Playoffs after the side narrowly missed out on the postseason in its inaugural season last year.

Series Notes

  • The Rhinos have recorded the only win in the three matches between the sides, having claimed an entertaining 3-2 victory on April 1 at Goodman Stadium early in the 2017 season.
