Current record: 13-13-4, 43pts
The Roughnecks fell 4-3 to Phoenix Rising FC on Wednesday night at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex in the USL Game of the Week on ESPN3, missing out on its first chance to clinch a place in the playoffs.
After taking a two-goal lead through goals by Joaquin Rivas and Juan Pablo Caffa in the opening 15 minutes, the Roughnecks conceded three goals in a row before Christian Thierjung made it 3-3 on the half-hour mark. Phoenix struck again in the second half as Jason Johnson scored his second goal of the game, and the Roughnecks were unable to find another equalizer to leave without a point.
Caffa's goal was his ninth of the season, while Joey Calistri recorded assists on all three of the team's goals against Phoenix. Both players now have nine goals and six assists apiece this season.
Tulsa will play both of its final two matches of the regular season at ONEOK Field with a win in either contest enough to earn a place in the USL Cup Playoffs. The Roughnecks could also clinch a place in the playoffs should Orange County SC suffer defeat to Reno 1868 FC and Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC fail to take victory against Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday night.
