Rochester looks to clinch Playoffs place

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds will look to play spoiler on Saturday as they host the Rochester Rhinos, with the Rhinos aiming to clinch a place the USL Cup Playoffs and also looking to challenge for the right to host a home match in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals when the teams meet on Saturday night at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. ET.

Pittsburgh Riverhounds news and notes

  • Current record: 8-11-11, 35pts

  • The Riverhounds were eliminated from playoff contention last weekend following a 2-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls II last Saturday at MSU Soccer Park.

  • After conceding an own goal in the 25th minute through Abuchi Obinwa, the City Islanders couldn’t fight back, conceding another goal in second-half stoppage time.

  • The defeat saw the Riverhounds' winless streak extend to five game as the side missed the postseason in back-to-back season for the first time in the USL era.

  • The Riverhounds have a chance to even their record at Highmark Stadium with wins in their final two games of the regular season, as they enter with a 4-6-4 record on home turf this season.

Rochester Rhinos news and notes

  • Current record: 11-7-11, 46pts

  • The Rhinos played to a scoreless draw with Louisville City FC last Saturday night at Capelli Sport Stadium to remain in fifth place in the Eastern Conference.

  • The draw made it five consecutive matches without a win for the Rhinos, but with three games remaining the side still has an outside chance of finishing second as it sits five points back of the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

  • With a win the Rhinos will clinch their place in the USL Cup Playoffs for the fourth successive season. The 2015 USL Cup winner, Rochester has reached the playoffs in five of the previous six seasons.

  • Rochester will be without midfielder Brandon Beresford, who was called up to represent Guyana this weekend as the country takes on Guinea in an international exhibition.

  • The Rhinos lead the all-time series between the two sides with a 7-5-4 record. Saturday's game will be their third meeting this year with the previous two meetings being drawn.
