RICHMOND, Va. – Orlando City B pushed hard in the second half and eventually got rewarded as a late goal gave OCB a 1-0 win over the Richmond Kickers  in front of a crowd of 6,581 fans at City Stadium on Sunday evening. In the 80th minute OCB finally broke through as Michael Cox played a perfect pass to find Hadji Barry running in to the right side of the penalty area, allowing him to finish it in his stride and win the match. The Kickers started the match brightly, looking to play spoiler again, but failed to hit the target, allowing Orlando to take charge after the half-hour mark. OCB also struggled to hit the target when chances presented themselves, keeping the tight match scoreless. In first half stoppage time Richmond's Sunny Jane hit an impressive free kick which forced OCB goalkeeper Jake Fenlanson to make an impressive save at full stretch to keep it scoreless at halftime. Orlando controlled more of the ball in the second half, but couldn’t break down the Kickers defense which was resolute, holding out OCB until the 80th minute. All hopes of the Kickers getting back on level terms ended in the 90th minute as Oscar Umar earned a straight red card for a poorly timed challenge, giving the Kickers a bigger challenge which they couldn’t overcome.

Scoring:
80’ – ORL – Hadji Barry (Michael Cox)

Three Things That Matter:

  • 1. Orlando needed a win to get back into the USL Cup Playoffs places, and left it late, but got the job done, finishing the week in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, two points clear of ninth-place Bethlehem Steel FC. Despite that OCB needs to keep its form up, as both Steel FC and the eighth-place New York Red Bulls II have a game in hand, with Orlando playing host to the Red Bulls II next Saturday.

  • 2. OCB continued its strong away record with the win in Richmond, its seventh away win of the season. OCB has been much stronger on the road than at home, winning just three matches at home, something that will need to change with its final two matches at home.

  • 3. The Kickers had hoped to complete their home slate with a win, and while it may not have been the result the fans wanted Richmond continued to pull the fans in despite missing out on the postseason for the first time in the USL era this year. For the sixth straight season the Richmond fans helped break the club's average-attendance record, supporting their club all the way to the end.

USLSoccer.com Man of the Match:

Hadji Barry, Orlando City B – Barry was key to the victory as he scored the goal to cap his strong performance. Barry was hard for the Kickers defense to stop, forcing them to foul him twice, which did little to stop Barry’s passing efficiency, getting 89.5 percent of his passes to his intended target, linking up well with Michael Cox especially.
