Roughnecks look for playoff berth, first victory against visiting SAFC

TULSA, Okla. – There is a chance that Tulsa Roughnecks FC could make the USL Cup Playoffs for the first time in club history this Saturday night, but to do so the Roughnecks will need to take victory against San Antonio FC at ONEOK Field as SAFC looks to rebound from its first back-to-back defeats of the season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.

Tulsa Roughnecks FC news and notes

  • Current record: 13-11-4, 43pts

  • Tulsa took a 1-0 win against the LA Galaxy II at ONEOK Field last Saturday night, and sits in sixth place in the USL Western Conference going into this weekend's action.

  • Chicago Fire loanee Joey Calistri scored the only goal of the match in the 25th minute, his ninth goal of the season, pushing Tulsa six points clear of ninth-place Orange County SC.

  • Roughnecks goalkeeper Fabian Cerda recorded a five-save shutout against the Galaxyh II, and earned a place on the USL Team of the Week announced on Tuesday.

  • Cerda has been key to the Roughnecks defensive turnaround this season, and is now tied for fifth in the USL with eight shutouts this season while recording 74 saves.

  • The Roughnecks can clinch a place in the postseason for the first time with a victory against San Antonio, and a defeat for Orange County SC in its game on Saturday night against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.

  • Current record: 14-4-10, 52pts

  • San Antonio suffered a difficult 1-0 loss to Rio Grande Valley FC in the South Texas Derby last Saturday night as it lost for the first time at Toyota Field this season.

  • After conceding to the Toros in the 17th minute, SAFC lost Ben Newnam to a red card three minutes later to hamper their comeback efforts. Newnam will begin a three-game suspension on Saturday night. 

  • San Antonio's Diego Restrepo remains two shutouts away from tying the single-season league record of 13, held by Brandon Miller, with four games to go in then regular season.

  • Saturday's loss was the first time San Antonio had suffered back-to-back defeats this season, and extended the club's winless streak to four games. The side now sits fourth in the Western Conference after the Swope Park Rangers' victory on Wednesday night against the LA Galaxy II pushed SPR into third position.
