PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Riverhounds will have a familiar face available for Saturday’s crucial game against the New York Red Bulls II at MSU Soccer Park after the return on loan of defender Joe Greenspan from Minnesota United FC of MLS.
Greenspan, 25, spent a brief stint in Pittsburgh earlier this season, making a considerable impact for the club in eight starts. The Westfield, N.J. native led the club with 51 clearances during his time in Black and Gold, and was a nominee for May’s edition of the USL Player of the Month award after twice being named to the USL Team of the Week during the month.
The Riverhounds will be without regular starting center back Jamal Jack on Saturday due to caution accumulation, making Greenspan’s presence a boost against a Red Bulls II side that has claimed four consecutive home victories and scored 14 goals in its last five games overall.
Pittsburgh enters Saturday afternoon’s contest three points back of the ninth-place Red Bulls II in the USL Eastern Conference standings, and four points out of the playoff positions, putting the side in need of a victory to boost its hopes of a return to the USL Cup Playoffs.
