Saint Louis and Cincinnati put Playoffs on the line

FENTON, Mo. – A huge game with USL Cup Playoffs implications arrives on Saturday night at Toyota Stadium – Saint Louis as both Saint Louis FC and FC Cincinnati look to build on victories in their last outings to take another step toward a plce in the postseason. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. CT.

Saint Louis FC news and notes

  • Current record: 9-12-7, 34pts

  • Saint Louis FC got its bid for the playoffs back on track last Saturday night as the side managed a 2-0 win against Orlando City B last Saturday at Toyota Stadium – Saint Louis despite playing much of the second half down to 10 men.

  • STLFC opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Ryan Howe before Christian Volesky’s 62nd-minute penalty kick sealed the victory and moves Saint Louis within two points of the Eastern Conference playoff positions with four games to play in the regular season.

  • Howe’s performance against Orlando earned him a place on the USL Team of the Week as he put in a strong defensive display in addition to his game-winning goal.

  • Saint Louis is looking to record back-to-back victories for the first time since April, having broken a four-game winless streak in last Saturday's contest.

FC Cincinnati news and notes

  • Current record: 10-9-9, 26pts

  • FC Cincinnati extended its undefeated streak to four games last Saturday night with a 4-2 win against the New York Red Bulls II as the club welcomed a USL-record crowd of 30,417 fans to Nippert Stadium.

  • After both sides scored inside the opening 20 minutes, including Austin Berry's opener for FCC, Corben Bone gave Cincinnati the halftime lead just past the half-hour mark before goals from Harrison Delbridge, and Kenney Walker saw FCC pull away in the second half.

  • Walker earned USL Player of the Week honors for his performance as he scored his first league goal of the season, and providing two assists as Cincinnati moved into sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

  • Saturday's game opens a four-game road trip to end the season for Cincinnati, which has only won twice on the road so far this season (2-7-3).

  • FCC has won all four matches played between these two teams, and took a pair of victories by a 6-0 margin in the first two meetings of this season at Nippert Stadium.
