Saturday Also Marks Military Appreciation Night Presented by Toyota

San Antonio FC (14-3-10) will host Rio Grande Valley FC (8-13-7) at Toyota Field on Saturday, Sept. 23. The match marks the second edition of the South Texas Derby this season as the team celebrates Military Appreciation Night presented by Toyota.

After a four-match road stint that lasted nearly a month, SAFC will return to Toyota Field as they host in-state rivals RGV FC. The Alamo City club will look to get back in winning form after suffering just their third loss of the season at Swope Park Rangers on Sept. 17. SAFC is now in third place in the standings, level on points with Reno 1868 FC but with a game in hand.

RGV FC will aim to build on their 1-0 home win over Reno last weekend. The Toros have won just one of their last five matches, and sit in 12th place in the standings, six points away from a USL playoff position. RGV has lost eight matches on the road this season, and has scored 33 goals while conceding 43 overall.

The two Texas clubs last met in the opening weekend of the 2017 season, when a goal from midfielder Billy Forbes led the Silver and Black to their first-ever win against RGV. SAFC will now aim to earn their first win at home against the Toros on Saturday.

Last season, RGV FC ended the Alamo City club’s playoff hopes in the last match of the 2016 regular season. Now, SAFC heads into the match with their first-ever playoff berth secured as the team aims to climb to the top of the West. San Antonio is currently just four points away from league-leading Real Monarchs SLC.

Saturday’s match will also be Military Appreciation Night presented by Toyota. Throughout the night, SAFC will recognize veterans and active-duty military members at Toyota Field.

Following Saturday’s matchup, SAFC and RGV FC will face off again in a matter of weeks when the Toros visit the Silver and Black at Toyota Field again on Oct. 14 in the final match of the USL regular season.
